Retail LED lighting services in New Jersey

Sunshine Lighting Group helps New Jersey businesses evaluate LED lighting for sales floors, product displays, checkout areas and stockrooms. A retail lighting assessment starts with the existing fixtures and the way the store operates. Identify the displays, aisles or work areas you want reviewed, along with any upcoming merchandising changes.

Assess the lighting by store area

General store lighting, display lighting and back-of-house lighting serve different purposes. Review their layouts, hours of use and existing controls separately before agreeing on replacement equipment.

Retail lighting walkthrough priorities
Store areaWhat to review
Sales floor and aislesFixture spacing, shelving height, shadows around merchandise and changes to aisle or display layouts.
Product displays and showroomsHow products look under the existing lights, light direction and the relationship between general and accent lighting.
Checkout and service countersStaff work areas, counter positions, screen reflections and hours of operation.
Stockrooms and receiving areasStorage layout, restocking activity, fixture access and areas used only intermittently.

Review product appearance before choosing fixtures

Explain which merchandise or displays need particular attention. If the existing lighting looks inconsistent from one area to another, identify the fixture types and locations involved. Discuss how proposed lighting would fit the display layout; product samples can help explain the appearance you want considered.

Tell us about seasonal displays, movable shelving or a planned store reset. The proposed scope should reflect the layout you intend to use, including any existing accent lighting that needs to be reviewed alongside the general fixtures.

Match controls to opening hours and back-of-house activity

Record customer opening hours and the time staff spend cleaning, receiving deliveries or restocking outside those hours. Identify lights that remain on after closing and explain their purpose. Review regularly occupied sales areas separately from intermittently used stockrooms when discussing controls.

Plan installation around store operations

Discuss busy trading periods, delivery schedules, access above shelving and areas where work would interfere with staff or customers. Identify who can arrange access and whether the proposed sequence needs to include work outside opening hours. Confirm the installation scope and access arrangements before scheduling.

For a store within a larger property, separate tenant-managed fixtures from shared corridors or exterior lighting. Our retail and shopping-center overview explains how to organize those responsibilities.

Prepare for the retail lighting walkthrough

  • Provide the service address, utility provider and on-site contact.
  • Identify the utility bill payer and who can approve work in the leased or owned space.
  • Share fixture photos, approximate counts, ceiling details or a floor plan when available.
  • List lighting concerns by aisle, display, checkout or storage area.
  • Note opening hours, deliveries, restocking schedules and upcoming layout changes.

Utility incentives and project costs

Qualifying LED lighting improvements may be eligible for New Jersey utility incentives. Available funding and the final customer contribution depend on the utility, current program rules, existing equipment and proposed work. A no-cost upgrade is conditional on the project qualifying.

Compare program routes in our New Jersey commercial lighting incentive guide, review the no-cost LED lighting program and follow the assessment and project review process. Confirm the proposed equipment, work and costs before approving the project.

Retail lighting questions

Can the assessment account for a store layout change?

Yes. Share the intended aisle, shelving and display layout during the walkthrough, including areas where fixtures may be difficult to access. Review the planned arrangement alongside the existing lighting.

What if some of the store already uses LED fixtures?

Include those areas in the inventory rather than assuming every fixture needs replacement. Any proposed changes and incentive eligibility need to be reviewed against the existing equipment and applicable program rules.

Should a tenant include shopping-center common areas in the request?

Identify the areas you control and the landlord or manager responsible for shared spaces. Keep the scopes and utility accounts clear so that work outside your authority is discussed with the appropriate property contact.
